The Hundred-Year Chair · back matter
Appendix: The Thousand-Year Build
Build record in progress, 29 September 2026. This appendix will document the actual armchair developed from Kratstoel. It is not a specification for a bronze-bracket Keel chair. Earlier plans for that different design remain in the preserved draft and must not be combined with this one.
The current direction is a frame of square-cut boards of a common section, a combined angled/lateral member, a truss replacing one heavily fastened lapped connection, and renewable cushions. Separate arm caps have been rejected. The exact geometry, fasteners, disassembly sequence, finish, cushion attachments, and information carrier are not yet settled in this record.
The documented incoming oak supply is from Ohio, associated with the John Walling house described in the supplied history as built in the 1830s. A separate Minnesota shipment is also coming. The Ohio lot is reported as a hundred board feet raw, with an estimated yield of three or four chairs. Tree age at felling is an estimate, not a dating result.
The finished record should say what was made, what was tried, and what changed. It cannot certify a thousand years of service.
Notes
- "current direction is a frame": Author's September 29, 2026 prototype and design notes. Geometry, joints, cushion interfaces, and the information carrier remain unsettled.
- "John Walling house": Author's corrected Ohio shipment account and supplied house-history images, summarized in editorial/oak-provenance-record.md. [VERIFY] Establish full provenance and source details; quantities and yield are reports and estimates, not a completed material inventory.
